Craving French Fries: A Spiritual Nudge Toward Grounding

For the past two weeks, I’ve had an unusual craving—French fries. Salty, crispy, golden little comforts that I couldn’t stop thinking about. At first, I brushed it off as a random food obsession. But then I paused and asked myself: What is my body really trying to tell me?

As a conscious mama on a healing path, I’ve learned that nothing is random—not even cravings. Everything is a message, especially from the body. French fries are warm, salty, and grounding. They’re made from potatoes, which grow deep in the earth. They remind me of comfort, childhood, and the kind of support you can feel.

So I asked myself—where in my life am I needing more comfort? More grounding? More softness?

The answer was immediate: I’m in the middle of a big life shift—emotionally, spiritually, and physically. My nervous system has been holding a lot. Divorce. Change. Solo parenting. Growth. Healing. And sometimes, when the soul gets tired, it doesn’t ask for a meditation or a green juice. It whispers, “Can I just have some fries?”

Cravings, especially for foods like French fries, are often the soul’s way of saying, “Come back to your body. Come back to yourself. Ground down.”

So I honored the craving—not with shame, but with curiosity. I let myself enjoy the fries, and I made space for what I was really needing: to feel safe, supported, and nourished.

Sometimes, the most sacred messages come in the most unexpected forms.

Next time you crave something, pause and listen. There might be a deeper meaning behind that salty bite.

  1. I’ve had a craving for chocolate lately. I wonder what that means.
